Our In-house R&D Pipeline:

01. Rapid Point-of-Care (PoC) Diagnostics for Infectious Diseases

Diseases like Leishmania, Tuberculosis, Salmonella Typhi, Influenza H5N1, and Trypanosoma cause millions of deaths annually, disproportionately affecting underserved regions. AthenaTecs is developing multiplex PoC diagnostics using:

  • AI-guided microfluidics for simultaneous detection of multiple pathogens in under 20 minutes

  • CRISPR-based biosensors for ultra-sensitive, extraction-free detection

  • Heat-stable reagents engineered for tropical and off-grid settings

Our platforms aim to make diagnostic testing fast, portable, and accessible — critical for outbreak control and healthcare equity.

02. Genetic Risk Scoring for Alopecia & Personalized Treatment Strategies

Alopecia affects over 150 million people worldwide, with limited tools for early intervention. AthenaTecs is building a polygenic risk score (PRS) model to predict alopecia susceptibility and guide precision therapy.

We combine:

  • Machine learning analysis of genetic and epigenetic variants

  • Biomarker-driven recommendations for therapies like JAK inhibitors and topical agents

This tool aims to support dermatology researchers and personalized medicine developers.

03. Microplastics & Sustainable Plastics Innovation

Microplastics threaten both environmental and human health, especially in regions lacking waste management infrastructure. Our projects address this through:

  • Low-cost enzymatic recycling of mixed plastics using engineered microbes

  • Portable nanosensors to measure microplastic exposure and model health outcomes (e.g., inflammation, toxicity)

  • Community co-design of circular economy hubs with local waste workers

These innovations aim to create scalable, low-barrier tools for plastic waste monitoring and intervention.

04. AI-Powered Mosquito Control & Vector-Borne Disease Prevention

Mosquito-borne diseases (malaria, dengue, Zika) account for 700,000+ deaths annually, with growing risk due to climate change. AthenaTecs is innovating:

  • AI-guided drones to map breeding sites and deliver biopesticides

  • CRISPR-based sterile male release for population suppression

  • Smart traps with pheromones and built-in pathogen detection

Our vector control tools are designed for ecological safety and real-time outbreak prevention.
